Cantor Francine Berg has led the music of our worship services for over 25 years. Syracuse born, she began her passion for music as a vehicle for prayer, teaching music during Sunday school and singing with the professional choir. Soon she broke gender boundaries, bringing her talents to the bima of Temple Concord.
Fran wears many hats in our community. Before her retirement, she taught music for the Syracuse City School District, where she directed the Rainbow Kids, an international children’s choir from over 35 countries. An active community volunteer, she offers her time and talents to many community organizations. Fran regularly participates in memorial services for the Hospice of Central New York and is music director for Hospice’s Camp Healing, a summer camp for children with family loss. She has received numerous awards and honors from the Syracuse community.
On Shabbat, Cantor Berg fills our sanctuary with sounds of worship and healing. Sundays, she teaches our children songs of Jewish celebration. Cantor Berg also works with some of the congregation’s students as they prepare to become bar/bat mitzvah and shares her musical skills with children of every grade in our religious school. She is an integral and beloved part of our Temple Concord family.
