Religious School - Temple Concord Syracuse

school 2

Temple Concord’s Religious School is a place filled with creativity, connections and learning. Through creativity and innovation we inspire students to build strong Jewish identities, make decisions based on Jewish morals and ethics and to continue on a path of lifetime Jewish Learning and participation. We strive to make our students’ learning relevant and meaningful. The learning that takes place gives students the tools to live Jewish lives.

By being involved in synagogue life, encouraging your child(ren)’s participation, and being a role model (dugma,) in the quest for lifelong learning, parents become our partners in these endeavors. These partnerships are an integral part of everything we do.

Each of our teachers is passionate about Jewish learning and building connections with our students. They bring experience, creativity and compassion to every aspect of their teaching.

K-7th grade meets Sunday mornings from 9:00am-12:00pm.  8th-12th grade participate in Epstein on Tuesdays or Thursdays.  See below for more information.

Enrichments to Classroom Learning

In addition to curricular topics covered in each grade our school offers numerous other learning opportunities. On Sunday mornings classes will be enhanced with music (weekly), art, and library time (once each month). Students will also pick a chug (activity) that they will participate in regularly. The Chugim not only allow for learning something different, but lets the students in grades 3-7 interact with students from other grades.

6th Grade Retreat January 20-22 at Hoover Girl Scout Camp in Tully

“I can’t believe I had that much fun!” “Can we do it again?” and “Why didn’t we do this sooner?” are just some of the comments from the 6th graders after last year’s retreat. The 6th grade retreat is both a phenomenal weekend and a requirement of our 6th grade curriculum. In addition to spending a beautiful Shabbat together, the programing for weekend full of fun engaging activities that allow these students to strengthen their bond with each other and with the whole Temple Concord Senior Staff. Please watch for more information.

While students learn the different prayers during Hebrew classes and home study, practicing in a prayer setting provides the best tool for learning. To help facilitate that, we offer many opportunities for students. The whole school comes together with their families each Sunday morning for T’filah. Students in grades 3-7 have Shabbat attendance requirements. (Please see school handbook for details).

Each grade participates in and helps lead one Shabbat service during the year.
